Series: Prehistorik
The Prehistorik series is a pair of side-scrolling platform games developed and published by Titus France in the early 1990s. These games blend classic arcade platforming with slapstick humor and a delightfully absurd prehistoric setting. Players control a caveman — big on appetite and even bigger on club-swinging — as he braves hostile lands filled with dinosaurs, traps, and quirky enemies in search of food, treasure, and glory.
The series began with Prehistorik (1991), where the protagonist must collect enough food to feed his tribe. The game features fixed-screen level design, challenging enemies, and a ticking timer that pushes players forward. While relatively simple in mechanics, its charm lies in creative enemy design and satisfying arcade-style gameplay.
Two years later came Prehistorik 2 (1993), an evolution in both visuals and gameplay. With smooth scrolling 2D levels, hidden secrets, bonus rooms, and boss battles, the sequel introduced a more open, exploration-based platforming experience. Gone was the food quota; instead, players were free to explore, uncover secrets, and rack up high scores. Prehistorik 2 also added a password system and clever environmental interactions, making it a standout among DOS platformers of its era.
Though only two main titles were released, the Prehistorik series left a lasting mark on retro gaming. Its colorful graphics, fun combat, and uniquely comical Stone Age setting continue to charm fans and newcomers alike — whether playing on original hardware or through modern browser emulators.
