Texas Mahjong is a clever mashup of Mahjong Solitaire and poker, developed by Generation i Studios. Instead of matching identical tiles, you strategically select cards from a Mahjong-style layout to build the strongest poker hands possible. The goal is to maximize your score by creating high-value hands like Royal Flushes or Full Houses — all while navigating the classic tile-revealing mechanics. It’s a fresh twist for card game fans and puzzle lovers alike!
How to play Texas Mahjong
Forget traditional tile matching — Texas Mahjong challenges you to think in terms of poker hands. Use your Mahjong instincts to pick free tiles and build the best hand possible.
Objective
Earn the highest score possible by building strong poker hands from Mahjong-style card tiles. Select cards from the layout and move them to your “hand” area at the bottom. Once five cards are selected, hit Play to lock in the hand and earn points based on poker rules.
Basic Gameplay
Each round, you’re dealt 2 new tiles, shown at the bottom right.
You must select 3 more tiles from the layout to build a 5-card hand.
Tiles must be free to be selectable:
No tile on top
No tile to the immediate left or right
Once you have 5 cards, press Play to submit the hand.
After each play, two new tiles are dealt, and the process repeats until the layout is empty.

Scoring & Multipliers
While score saving is no longer supported in the Flash version, the original scoring system included:
Score Multipliers
- Target Hand: Each round, a poker hand is randomly selected. Match it and get a multiplier (starts at 2x, increases each time).
- Streak Bonus: Play the same hand type in multiple consecutive rounds (e.g. three Flushes) to earn a higher multiplier.
- Bonus Tiles: Special glowing tiles grant a 3x multiplier if used in a hand. Multiple bonus tiles can stack!
FAQ
What makes this different from traditional Mahjong?
Instead of matching identical tiles, you’re building poker hands from cards arranged in a Mahjong tile layout.
What happens when I run out of playable tiles?
The game ends when there are no more movable tiles left on the board.
How many tiles are used?
The game uses 105 tiles, representing two full decks plus a wild card.
Can I undo a move?
Yes — you can return a tile to the layout if needed. However, once you hit “Play,” the hand is locked in and can’t be changed.
Does card order matter in the hand?
No — as long as you have five valid cards, they don’t need to be in order for scoring.
